Google My Business For Realtors in 2020

If you're a realtor having a Google My Business account is an invaluable SEO tool to interact with clients and increase your online brand awareness. Here are some frequently asked questions and things to know about getting started and keeping up to date with your Google My Business Account.

As a realtor can I have a Google My Business?

Often realtors are self employed and are running their own business/ brand  (i.e paying a fixed amount to a real estate broker for admin fees, in charge of commission rates, paying expenses out of pocket, etc). If you fall into this category you should most definitely create and actively manage your own Google My Business account (or help someone do it for you). Essentially your business is your own brand and you are selling your services as a professional realtor. Having Google My Business is a powerful SEO tool that you cannot afford to miss out on.

Why should a realtor have a Google My Business account?

A Google My Business account is a tool that helps realtors (businesses) increase their online brand presence.  As a realtor you want to showcase the services you offer and the value and expertise you can provide to your client. Realtors benefit from Google My Business the same way any other business can. Through Google My Business you can increase your website visibility and online presence, manage client reviews, increase your interaction with clients, create and manage business posts  and view key insights into your online performance.

Is it worth to maintain an active Google My Business Account?

Once you have set up a Google My Business account you are not done. Having a Google My Business account is similar to having an extra social media channel but dedicated for your own business and optimized for Google Search. Like with Facebook and Instagram setting up an account and never logging in or posting is not going to get you very many followers.  With an active and verified Google My Business Account people are more likely to find you on Google Maps and Google Search and will be more enticed to read about your offerings when you have active up to date posts, pictures and engaging client reviews. A well managed Google My Business account is another form of social proof that your real estate business is alive, thriving, well managed and up to date.

Can a realtor have a Google My Business if I don't have an office?

If you are a realtor you can use your office location or your home address. If you are using your home address you have the option to hide this address from public view during the Google My Business verification process. Your business/location will still get index my Google in a similar way to your area but the public won't see your address. You can get verified my email or phone if Google gives you that option (usually if your business or brand is well established). If not you will have to get verified via postcard. Google will actually mail you a physical postcard with a verification code to your home or business address.

How can realtors optimize their Google My Business?

It is crucial to keep your listings up to date an engaging. This includes basic and obvious things like making sure your business information is up to date and hours of operation. As a realtor you can provide information snippets about the services and value you provide for clients through the Google My Business interface. Weekly Google My Business posts keep your account up to date and active. This results in better indexing by Google's algorithms over the long term and is an important aspect of SEO. In fact optimizing your Google My Business account is the best way to see quick results in terms of local SEO.  As a realtor there is a ton of things you can post regularly about such as the real estate market pulse, up to date information on your niche market, your realtor listings, tip and tricks for home buyers, advice for home sellers, and so on and on.
